Free karate lessons for Midrand children in sector 3

Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum and Kaizen Martial Arts and Fitness Academy have launched free karate sessions to teach kids valuable defensive skills.

Sensei Chris Narainsamy, who has over 50 years of experience in shotokan karate, welcomed 10 children to their first class on October 22 at Gecko Jewelers in Crowthorne.

Narainsamy said: “We want to develop children and build progressive skills, improve overall fitness levels and increase motivation and self-esteem. My intention is to train and develop as many children as possible, especially school going children.

He also teaches karate and fitness at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, Hillkruin Montessori School and Discovery Health Creche.

Marvin Maphiri, Chair of the Sector 3 Forum, said, “This is part of our community empowerment initiative. We thought it would be a great idea to partner with Kaizen Martial Arts and Fitness Academy to provide karate training for kids. We see this as a good investment for the CPF as it will definitely help us in the future when it comes to fighting crime.

The free sessions run every Saturday from 08:30 to 10:30 until December this year, with reasonable pricing to be determined from next year.
