YouTube martial arts sensation DK Yoo travels to various countries as he soaks up all the lessons he could possibly get in preparation for his upcoming exhibition boxing match with eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
Yoo, who enjoys a height and reach advantage against Pacquiao, appears to be dead serious as he pulls off a big upset victory over the Filipino boxing icon in their six-round bout on Dec. 10 in South Korea.
Yoo, who is making his boxing debut, traveled to Korea, the Philippines, the Netherlands and Italy before heading to Los Angeles at the Wildcard Gym under Filipino trainer Marvin Somodio.
Wildcard Gym is owned by legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who coached Pacquiao in many of his world title fights.
On paper, Pacquiao, who retired from boxing with a record of 62 wins, 8 losses and 2 draws, looks unbeatable against South Korea’s toughest opponent, who espouses the hands-on approach to the war fighting system. .
Pacquiao retired in September 2021 after losing by unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas.
Both fighters are 43 years old and left-handed.
Although it is a charity event, Pacquiao and his longtime friend, trainer Buboy Fernandez, are determined to win the fight by stoppage.
“Iba ito, pero paghahandaan namin ito ng seryoso,” Fernandez said.
Pacquiao is using this fight as the first step towards returning for a big budget fight. A comeback fight with Floyd Mayweather is always an option.
But at a recent press conference in Los Angeles where he appeared via Hologram, Pacquiao also expressed interest in facing the winner of the fight between Errol Spence and Terence Crawford.
But much of that will depend on how he fare against Yoo.
“Why not? If it’s possible, but we’ll see the result first. I’ll watch,” Pacquiao told Fighthype.
