PESHAWAR – Pakistan Army and Pakistan Wapda players dominated the 27th Men’s and 10 Women’s National Judo Championships underway here at Lala Rafique Sports Arena on Sunday under the auspices of the Pakistan Judo Federation and the Association of Judo Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Pakistan Army players won the top position in six different weight classes and cemented their position for the medals. KPJA Senior Vice President Masood Ahmed handed out medals to the athletes. Olympian Shah Hussain successfully defended his title by taking first place in 110kg. In the 110kg event, Hamid Ali of Navy finished second and Sabir Ali of KP and Yusuf Riaz of Punjab finished third. In the men’s 66kg, Mr Hussain took gold, Naseeb Khan silver and Salman Khan and Mr Omar bronze. Army’s Ali Akbar took gold in 55kg and Sabir Hussain took gold in 50kg. In the women’s 70kg, Benish of Wapda won gold, Amna of Punjab silver while Khatijah of KP and Fazilaat of Navy won bronze.
Manahil Iftikhar of Army took gold in 48kg while Anam Anwar of Punjab was second and Aqsa Ahmed of HEC and Mohsina of KP finished third. In the shot put of 44kg, Irum Shehzadi from the army took gold while Mashal from Punjab got silver and Asifa Noor and Nida – both from KP – won bronze medals.
